The City as it appears in the Dick Tracy comic strip's Green Hornet crossover
The City is the primary setting of the Dick Tracy comic strip and where its titular protagonist lives and works. It is also the setting for the entirety of the comic strip's Green Hornet crossover arc. Although no specific name or precise geographical location has ever been ascribed to the City, it has been depicted as being somewhere east of Kansas City, Missouri, but west of New York City. Its suburbs are also named after many of the real life suburbs in Chicago.
The City is the home of many notorious gangsters, as well as the criminal organization known as the Apparatus. To combat this criminal element, the city has its own police department with a special division, the Major Crimes Unit, headed up by lead detective Dick Tracy. When Britt Reid travels to the City in pursuit of Cyrus Topper, he runs afoul of the Major Crimes Unit while operating as the Green Hornet, do to the widespread perception that the Green Hornet is himself a criminal.
Other noteworthy institutions of the City which appear in the Green Hornet crossover arc include Schrecker Broadcasting Network, a TV news station; the city's premiere newspaper, The Daily; and Mazuma National Bank.
